About Jess

Originally from South Africa, I live in Colorado with my husband, Tom, and our two middle school boys. When I’m not hanging with my family, I’m probably thrifting, snowboarding or procrasti-napping.

Speaking

As an international speaker with over 18 years experience, I communicate with humor, passion and humility. In 2023, I was invited to speak at the first TEDx Durban event. I also have a great accent, which makes me sound really fancy.

Coaching

As a certified Thoughtsmiths coach, I have a unique gift for helping my clients identify where they are stuck and how to move forward. I’ve helped people around the world to think about their thinking.

I am also a coach with the Women Speakers Collective , where I come alongside women from around the world, helping to elevate, equip and empower.

Writing

I hold a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Management, and a Master of Arts in Vocational Studies.
I am a Ph.D Candidate in Professional Studies from Eastern University, with research focused on creative writing and communicatio. I love sharing complex research in compelling relatable ways.

I have authored two booksEmpty Cages: Keys to Finding Freedom, and my children’s book, Daisy McDuling and her Beautiful Brain, which I also illustrated. I have been a contributor for multiple publications, as well as copywriting and scriptwriting.
